HIV & AIDS Statistics

HIV/AIDS Surveillance is the systematic collection, compilation, and analysis of HIV/AIDS morbidity and mortality data. Surveillance also involves the dissemination of HIV/AIDS data to concerned agencies and to the public. In 1981 Florida began to collect voluntary AIDS surveillance reports and in 1983, AIDS was designated a reportable disease by the State Health Officer, and a formal AIDS surveillance program was instituted in Florida. In 1986 Mandatory reporting of AIDS was incorporated into Florida Statutes and effective July 1, 1997, HIV infection became reportable by name in the State.
